A much needed update – and more photos!

Hello visitors!

I greatly apologize for the lack of updates. I’m preparing for a mid-country move in a couple of weeks, so preparations have kept me busy. I do have one great news to bring, however.

If you remember our very first recipient, Orchard Place, they’ve just recently created their own 1000-crane piece with a custom display and presented it to the Blank Children’s Hospital. Here’s is a quote from Nancy Bobo, the VP of  Development and Marketing at Orchard Place:

Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, IA.  The piece was assembled by the 103 children that reside here at Orchard Place, a facility for children with severe mental illness.  The case was designed and made by Honorary Board Member, Wes Ritchie.

Please enjoy some of the pictures from the event and the beautiful display, and not to mention the beautiful cranes! There is also a link below the images of the press release for the event.

Cranes for a Wish is honored and proud to have been, even if slightly, a part of the overall project.

I will have pictures soon of our next recipient of our cranes, the Oregon Center for Career Development in Childhood Care and Education, which, happens to be my place of work. 🙂

Cranes for the tragedy in Japan

Hello visitors,

I just wanted to post a quick note regarding the devastation in Japan and that we are sending our good wishes to all people involved in the event, directly or indirectly. The Portland Japanese Garden will be holding a vigil and setting up a Wish Arbor on their premises tomorrow for anyone who’d like to come by to put in their wishes and prayers.

Cranes for a Wish is honored to be able to donate 2 (two) thousand-crane-bouquets for this event and arbor. My wife and I are hoping to attend the vigil tomorrow and I hope to take some photos of the event, along with the cranes that were donated to us.

Best wishes,

James

New year updates

Hello to visitors.

I apologize again for the lack of updates but we do have some new things going on. My dear friend has created a new logo for the organization, which I will be updating soon. I think it reflects the children aspect of the organization nicely.

The video is still yet to come…soon, however!

Thanks for the support thus far. I can’t believe we’re already halfway into February for 2011!

Some news

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to swing by and give an update to whoever reads my blog here. First off, the video will be coming soon…I just have to find time to sit down and fold a crane slowly. Perhaps this weekend I’ll have this done.

Last week an individual that works with the Girls Scouts in Arizona contacted me about interest in donating a 1000-cranes. I, of course, let her know that I would be delighted. Along that line, I have been discussing being part of a cool and unique art exhibit that the Portland Japanese Garden is doing/preparing for next year. I hope to hang at least 1, perhaps even up to 6, crane bouquets during this exhibit. You can read about the Hibaku Tree Project here. Basically, an artist/sculpture is creating an elephant sculpture using the pruned branches from the generations of surviving trees from the A-bomb explosion in Hiroshima in 1945. As this project is directly in line with the history of Sadako and the legend of the crane bouquet, it would be an honor to be a part of it. Still, it’s just about a year away, so lots of things can happen until then.

That’s it for now. Everyone enjoy your weekend.

Apologies for the lack of updates

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to make a post to let you know that we aren’t done yet! Things have been hectic lately as I just moved locations to Oregon, so I haven’t had much time to work on the next project.

A little sneak peak, however:

Our new donors of cranes come from San Diego. They are a group of National Honor Society members who amazingly folded 12,000+ cranes for us and sent them a few months ago. I cannot describe in words the appreciation for them. 1,000 cranes, let alone 12,000, is a huge feat. With this amount of cranes, we will work diligently to find many, many recipients. I also have an idea for a “mega bouquet”, as well.

More info to come in the coming months!
